  • Dave Foerter

    In 2012, Dave was invited to join the group and added a new sound with his harmonica. His favorite song to play is La La Blues by Pokey LaFarge because “it’s raucous fun!” he says, and if you watch Dave play, you’ll understand why. Dave’s favorite venue to play is the Celtic House in Arlington. He lives in Falls Church and is originally from Lanham, Maryland. In addition to the harmonica, Dave can play the saxophone and the flute.

  • Scot Hoffman

    Scot joined 40MH in 2014 when the band was looking for a second guitarist. His favorite song to play is Country Girl – a Lou King original. His favorite venue is the Westover Beer Garden in Arlington because “it’s a great crowd with a great vibe.” Scot sings and plays guitar and mandolin. Originally from Middletown, New Jersey, he’s lived in South Arlington since 1999.

  • Lou King

    Lou joined the group in 2019 to fill in for bassist Pete, who was leaving for a yearlong assignment with the Marine Reserves. When Pete returned, Lou swapped strings for sticks and moved to drums. His favorite to song play is That’s Life – a Steve Schaible original. Originally from Fairfax, Virginia, Lou says his favorite musical venue to play is “anywhere warm.” In addition to drums and bass, he plays guitar and sings.

  • Pete Neubauer

    Pete joined the band in 2014 when the group was looking for a bass player. He has many favorites but loves having fun with Friend of the Devil by the Grateful Dead because the audience always dances and sings when they play it. His favorite venue to perform is the Arlington County Fair. Pete is a Washington, D.C., native and lives in South Arlington. In addition to the bass, he plays piano and guitar and even dabbles on drums when he can.

  • Karen Osterloh

    In 2008, after Karen’s husband Eric watched 40 Miles Home play at a neighborhood party, he said to Steve, “You guys need a mandolin player.” Six months later, Karen joined the group. During practice one night, a band member commented: “It’s too bad we don’t have a fiddle player for ‘Fisherman’s Blues.’” Karen mentioned she studied violin in college, and the rest is history. Karen’s favorite song to play is Friend of a Friend of a Friend, a Lou King original, and the Westover Beer Garden is her favorite place to perform. Karen is originally from Phoenix, Arizona, and lives in South Arlington.

  • Steve Schaible

    Steve is an original member of 40MH, which was formed in 2006 by a handful of friends who “were learning to play, got good enough and wanted to play for people.” His favorite song is Fingers to the Bone by Brown Bird and favorite place to perform is Westover Beer Garden. He sings and plays guitar, percussion and flute. He’s originally from Silver Spring, Maryland, and lives in South Arlington with his family.
